1964 Drought

A deadly combination of a bad hay and drought lead to a scene reminiscent of dust bowl days not far from Parkfield. A delivery of hay was moldy leading to fatal consequences. The ranch owner brought in high concentrate feed to replace the contaminated hay, was moving cattle to other pastures and was pursuing legal action against the feed supplier.
This story ran the same day as the protest in Shell Beach.

San Luis Range Scene - A part of the herd on the Cholame Rancho in northeastern San Luis Obispo County operated by the R.E. Jack Co. A combination of bad hay and drought has caused some loss which is being corrected as rapidly as possible, Jack says.
